Core Recovery Events

Core Recovery Events (CRE) are key developmental activities that wounded, injured and sick (WIS) personnel undertake during their recovery. They have been designed to engage individuals in their recovery and through a holistic approach encourage WIS personnel to focus positively on their potential outcome.

All soldiers who are suffering from a medium to long-term wounding, injury or sickness will need to attend a series of between three and five mandatory courses to assist their recovery. The courses are designed to support the recovery process and include adaptive sports and adventure training as well as classroom-based training in finances, work placements and CV writing. While the courses are mandatory, there is latitude where courses are not relevant to the individual when discussed with their Personnel Recovery Officer or unit.

Soldiers are booked on to the courses by their unit. Application forms and Joining Instructions are on the Defence Intranet.

The induction course is a five day course run out of the Personnel Recovery Centres to introduce wounded, injured and sick soldiers to the military recovery process, the stages it involves and what happens so they are able to engage at each point.
The course also introduces the concept of the Individual Recovery Plan as well as signposting various support agencies that can help.
