2 Close Support Battalion

Role: 2 CS Bn REME has recently moved into the Adaptable Force (AF) where it sits in 101 Log Brigade, alongside 1 CS Bn REME providing Equipment Support (ES) to 1 Div.

2 Bn is comprised of the following:

• 7 Close Support Coy
• 11 Close Support Coy

Location: At its new home in Leuchars 2 CS Bn REME share the camp with the Scots Dragoon Guards, 110 Provost Coy, 71 RE and elements from the RAF which make for a diverse and interesting mix. Outside of work St Andrews is nearby (4 miles) offering the opportunity to relax and enjoy a vibrant social scene, with Dundee 6 miles away and Edinburgh an hour away by train 2 CS Bn REME’s location couldn’t be better.

Supported Units: The AF has a two year cycle alternating between training and committed years. Currently in its committed year 2 CS Bn REME independently supports 4 Bde, 7 Bde, 38 Bde, 42 Bde, 160 Bde as well as its regional Bde, 51 Bde and 102 Log Bde.

REME Reserve Bn Pairing: 2 CS Bn REME is currently paired with 106 Bn REME who reside in Glasgow. During 2016, 2 CS Bn deployed to Cyprus with 106 Bn on their annual overseas training exercise.

Exercises/Deployments: Being part of the Adaptable Force ensures a large proportion of our officers and soldiers are constantly being deployed on operations, exercises and in temporary posts in the Middle East, Kenya, the Falkland Islands as well as various other locations at all times. As a result any soldier or officer looking for a varied posting with deployments and overseas exercises should look to serve with 2 CS Bn REME.

The Bn will return to a training year in 2017, where it will have a large foot print in Kenya. Ex ASKARI TEMPEST runs throughout the year, offering a number of soldiers and officers the opportunity to deploy in charge of a 2nd Line ES element to support the exercising Battlegroup on Ex ASKARI STORM. These six-week exercises are an excellent chance to deploy with the REME during a large scale exercise. Throughout 2017 all elements of 2 CS Bn REME will deploy to Kenya.

Adventurous Training / Sport: In addition to these commitments there are several other activities The Bn takes part in. Events such as Ex CAMBRIAN PATROL, battlefield studies, and AT and sports are all regular occurrences in the Bn calendar. 2 CS Bn is highly involved in winter sports, sending a Nordic ski team away for four months of the year as well as entering a number of Alpine skiing and snowboarding events. The location in Scotland is on the coast and being close to the highlands opens up a number of AT and sporting possibilities locally, alongside a number of overseas expeditions each year.
