Ex-service personnel encouraged to 'Be the Boss'
The MOD has announced a new enterprise scheme to give more support to Armed Forces veterans looking to start their own business or become self-employed.
The Be the Boss enterprise scheme, funded by the Government, is available from 1 April 2010. It's being run by the Royal British Legion to provide ex-service personnel with loans of up to £50,000 and grants of up to £7,500 to assist with the costs of starting and growing a business.
Ex-serving personnel who have been discharged since 7 October 2001 (including reservists who have seen active service since that date) will be eligible for the scheme, which builds on the RBL's 'Civvy Street' website service.
Elements of the Be the Boss scheme include advice and guidance, loans and grants, and mentoring. Veterans who are eligible can register or find more information at the website: www.civvystreet.org.uk or call the dedicated phone helpline on 0800 678787.
