1st Battalion The Rifles (1 RIFLES)

1 RIFLES is based in Beachley Barracks, near Chepstow in Gloucestershire. The Battalion consists of around 500 Riflemen who deploy from their base location on training and operations worldwide. Until recently the Battalion was part of 3 Commando Brigade, but it now falls under the command of 160 Infantry Brigade. Headquarters 160 Infantry Brigade is located in Brecon and has a particular focus on Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

1 RIFLES is a Light Roled Infantry Battalion, part of the British Army’s Adaptive Force and is paired with 6th Battalion The Rifles. Light Roled Infantry Battalions are trained to deploy worldwide at short notice with light scales of equipment, into terrain ranging from mountains to jungle, demanding fit and agile Riflemen.

1 RIFLES has some of the best snipers in the British Army, the strongest rugby team in The Rifles and has good transport connections to the South West and Midlands.
