The Royal Welsh are Wales' Infantry Regiment, consisting of 2 regular and one reserve (TA) battalions. The Royal Welsh has a long and distinguished history, producing courageous, tough, resourceful and professional soldiers.

The Regiment retains strong links with Wales and is extremely proud of its Welsh heritage. In joining the Royal Welsh, you join a unique family, offering a challenging, diverse and above all, rewarding career.

The Royal Welsh was formed on 1 March 2006 from 3 former Regiments

  • The Royal Welch Fusiliers
  • The Royal Regiment of Wales
  • The Royal Welsh Regiment (TA)

These 3 regiments came together to form what is now The Royal Welsh consisting of the following 3 battalions

  • 1 Royal Welsh

    A light role battalion based in Chester

  • 2 Royal Welsh

    An armoured infantry battalion based in Tidworth, Wiltshire

  • 3 Royal Welsh

    A territorial (TA) battalion with its headquarters in Cardiff and bases across Wales

Day 3 of Op MOSHTARAK: Having achieved their aims on days one and two, 1 Royal Welsh troops begin patrols, hold Shuras and await the arrival of the Trojan armoured vehicle, which is clearing the main supply route from Camp Bastion to the Nad e-Ali area.
