The Joint Service Caving Scheme is delivered from the Joint Service Mountain Training Wing (Ripon), North Yorkshire, and during expeditions overseas. Caving meets the aims of Adventurous Training through structured courses that develop the skills necessary to explore both non-vertical and vertical systems. Emphasis is placed on safety and an awareness of the environment.
Examples of Caving courses on offer include:
Caving Foundation (CVF) - A 5-day course to introduce personnel to the basics of caving.
Single Rope Technique (SRT) - A 5-day course in the specialised techniques of descending and ascending fixed rope systems in vertical caves.
Cave Leader Training (CVT) - A 5-day course to develop the necessary skills for cavers preparing for Cave Leader qualifications.
Cave Instructor (CVI) - Two 5-day modules of instruction and assessment of an individual's ability to effectively instruct at all levels of caving within the service environment.
