Corporal Ana Lavekau is from Fiji and enlisted in the British Army in 2006. She is a Combat HR Specialist with the Adjutant General’s Corps Staff and Personnel Support Branch.
During her time in the Army she has served twice in Afghanistan and has had postings with 27 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps, 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards, the Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing and, most recently, with 26 Engineer Regiment in Perham Down.
She has also deployed to Oman, in 2013, and was attached to the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment for an exercise in Kenya in 2014. She worked as a female searcher during the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and, while there, she coordinated a visit for the all the Fijian soldiers working on the Games to meet the President of Fiji in Glasgow.
She and her daughter were recently part of the Photographers’ Gallery Exhibition in London as the ‘Face of Fiji’ and in 2012 she was involved in the Queens Jubilee Video for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Also in 2012, she was a performer in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London Olympic Games. Her highlight from 2015 was being interviewed on ITV Breakfast during the Rugby World Cup, having performed with her professional Fijian dance group ‘Mekeart Tribe’.
She is a leading advocate for the Fijian language, dance, Pacific art and fashion in the UK. She is currently working on a Fashion Show promoting Pacific fashion in London, related to the forthcoming Disney film ‘Moana’.
She has represented the Army and her Corps at various sports, including Netball, Hockey and Rugby.
Cpl Lavekau was posted to the AEG on the 26 February 2016 as the Team Corporal.
