Sports and Events

Sport is a vital part of the Royal Artillery's culture. We run teams and clubs playing a wide variety of sports, including cross country, orienteering, boxing and equestrian to name just a few.

Passion for sport

A passion for sport is a vital part of the Royal Artillery's culture. We run teams and clubs playing a wide variety of sports, the list is endless. Sport is an excellent way of developing your leadership and tactical skills - crucial elements in any winning team. What's more, the spirit that bonds you and your team mates is as important on the field of play as it is on the field of battle. Current national sportsmen include Andrew Clarke, team captain of the British Telemark Ski Team, and Charlie Unwin, who has represented Britain in Modern Pentathlon.

There are many sports available in the Royal Artillery, including cycling, cross country, to name but a few.

The most prestigious fixture is the annual match against the Royal Engineers. This 2-day event for the Corps team is the longest running amateur match between two teams played at the same venue. It was first played in 1895 and there have been 108 matches played so far.
It is held every year at Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent.
