Our role

As part of Army 2020 the RAC will consist of 10 Regular Regiments, including the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) and 4 Reserve (Yeomanry) Regiments. RAC Regiments form part of both the British Army’s Reaction Force (RF) and Adaptable Force (AF).

The Reaction Force provides the British Army’s high readiness force that will undertake short notice war fighting and intervention tasks. The British Army’s 3 Regular and single Reserve Armour Regiments and 3 Armoured Cavalry Regiments sit within the RF. The Adaptable Force form an agile grouping, capable of combat operations, overseas engagements with other nations to prevent conflict, state ceremonial duties and civil engagement in the UK. 3 Regular and 3 Reserve Light Cavalry regiments and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment sit within the AF.

In whatever role they are operating, every regiment of the Royal Armoured Corps takes enormous pride in the history and traditions of its forebears, to serve with fortitude, initiative, style and flair.
