Officer Careers in the AGC

The 4 Branches of the Adjutant General's Corps cover a spectrum of activities to better motivate, equip and, protect its personnel in order that they can focus on and better undertake their primary roles as officers and soldiers.

Army Legal Services (ALS)

The Army Legal Services Branch is a specialist all officer Branch, who are professionally qualified as solicitors, barristers or Scottish advocates before joining the Army.  As Professionally Qualified Officers, they attend a 4-week training course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.  They are responsible for the provision of legal advice to the Army, legal training and support on operations, a prosecuting authority and a personal legal advice service for soldiers and their families.

Educational and Training Services (ETS)

The Educational and Training Services Branch is a specialist all officer Branch who provide learning and development opportunities for serving personnel wherever they are in the world.  All entrants require a postgraduate degree as part of their entry requirements.  All officers will undertake a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at Southampton University as part of their Junior Officer Development followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Education Development at the rank of Captain. Other educational opportunities include Languages and professional awards such as the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD).

Royal Military Police (RMP)

The Royal Military Police are the regulatory and investigative organisation and provide police support to the Army through close protection services, custodial activities and the provision of guarding services.

Staff and Personnel Support (SPS)

The Staff and Personnel Support Branch provide a wide variety of Human Resource functions in every unit and Headquarters of the Army and Joint (Navy/Army/RAF) organisations.  They are responsible for the provision of Personnel Administration, Information Administration, Finance, Payroll and Allowances, Accounting and Audit, Personnel Assistants and Staff support. All officers will have the opportunity to commence the Postgraduate Administration in Business as part of their junior officer training programme and there are further opportunities to obtain the following qualifications: Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Chartered Institute for Professional Development (CIPD) and, Institute for Chartered Secretaries (ICSA).

Entry Requirements:

All officers require the following educational qualifications: 180 UCAS points, 35 ALIs, 2 GCE A levels (min grades D/E) and 7 GCSEs (inc English, Maths or Science and a language).

ETS, RMP and SPS officers all attend a 44 week course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst prior to attending their specialist branch courses.
