About Us

All members of Queen's University Officer Training Corps are students in tertiary education within Northern Ireland. As a result, Queen's UOTC reflects the cultural diversity of students within Northern Ireland, as well as being one of the best student clubs.

Queen's UOTC also offers first class opportunities for leadership development through military training, adventurous training and social activities. Some of the training can be challenging, but ultimately rewarding.

Many of the Officer Cadets view the OTC as a means of obtaining skills that will be valuable in a range of civilian professions as well as for those with longer-term aspirations for a career with the military. Officer Cadets who attend Queen's University can attain the Degree Plus qualification and Officer Cadets who attend the University of Ulster attain the Edge qualification. In addition to the supplementary university degree award; Queen’s UOTC are also registered to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme up to Gold Standard and there is a Chartered Management for Leadership – Level 5 Award that can be achieved whilst with the UOTC.

Typically, in a standard training year, we meet on Wednesday evenings (7pm – 9pm) during term time with on average one to two weekends away during the month from October to March.  We then take a break in the months April and May to allow students to focus on their end of year exams before regrouping for our annual 2 week camp in June.

Queen’s UOTC is geared towards student life and the demands of the academic year. The educational curriculum requirements of students are fully understood and accommodated during the cadet’s time in the UOTC.

Our recruiting period runs every year throughout September and October and then again at the end of January. Over these periods there are a number of open days, fresher's events and recruiting evenings where you can come along and gain an insight into life in the OTC and what it is possible for you to get up to in your time here.
